IH Images LLC

IH Images LLC was formed in 2009 by Michael Tarter, the grandson of award-winning photographer Irving Haberman.  Based in Los Angeles, California, the company represents the Irving Haberman Photo Collection, featuring more than 10,000 negatives and vintage prints of the most celebrated personalities and news events of the 20th century, along with iconic images of New York life.  IH Images is also proud to offer select images from a growing list of other talented photographers, presenting their work to a worldwide marketplace in many cases for the first time.

The inspiration for IH Images started back in 1995, when Tarter, while working for a small entertainment marketing company in New York, spearheaded a licensing agreement with Rizzoli to publish a coffee table book of his grandfather’s work titled Eyes on an Era: 4 Decades of Photojournalism by Irving Haberman. Walter Cronkite, Haberman’s longtime friend and colleague for more than 35 years at CBS, agreed to participate in the project, and the book was a success by almost every measure.  The relationship with Rizzoli also introduced Tarter to Miles Barth, then Curator at the International Center of Photography, who wrote a comprehensive biography on Haberman for the book, and hosted a three-month exhibition of Haberman’s work at the museum.  Haberman’s family is forever grateful to both Cronkite and Barth for their help in elevating Haberman’s stature amongst the top photographers of his era, and making his dream of a book of his photos come true.

Nearly fourteen years later, Tarter felt the timing was right to launch IH Images LLC, using his experience in sales and marketing to take Haberman’s dream, and that of other talented photographers to a new level.  More than 300 images are presented at www.ihimages.com and www.irvinghaberman.com, and thousands more are available for sale through IH Images.  Haberman's vintage prints, many of which were exhibited and won awards at various competitions, are available for sale at the Monroe Gallery of Photography in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Reprints will soon be available through various retail channels, including home décor stores and other online sources for vintage and contemporary photography.  IH Images also works with interior designers and home stagers to service their clientele, and will soon have an agreement in place to make its images available for commercial licensing.
